TWA Names 2011 Literary Legend and Writer of the Year
Congratulations to Dr. Will Campbell, TWA’s 2011 Literary Legend, and to poet Bill Brown, who was voted Writer of the Year! We were honored to have Bill read for us at the Chapter 16 stage at Southern Festival of Books in October.
In recognition of his award, Maypop is proud to present five new poems from Bill Brown.
Since 2006, the Tennessee Writers Alliance has been recognizing writers through these two awards. The purpose of the awards, each given annually, is to recognize writers who have contributed to the literary heritage of the state. Learn more about the awards.
New Work Online in Maypop
New work by Tennessee writers Deb Simpson and Lynn Vander Elst is now posted in our online journal Maypop.
Welcome to the new TWA website
As of June 28th, 2011, TWA has a new look for our website. We’re still in the process of adding some older content from our archives, and adding some new features as well, but we hope you enjoy the new site.
As always, send your questions, news or other inquiries to us at

TWA Remembers Janice Keck
The Tennessee Writers Alliance is deeply saddened to announce the death of current President, Janice Keck. She joined the board in 2009 and has served as Vice-President and President. Janice was hard-working, enthusiastic, and always willing to contribute in any way she could. This is an enormous loss for the Tennessee Writers Alliance, and she will be greatly missed.

Sallie Bissell Novels Featured in Tourism Initiative
Former Tennessee Writers Alliance executive director Sallie Bissell was recently featured twice for her novels at the Southeastern Literary Tourism Initiative.
SELTI is an online guide that offers excerpts, photos, links, and reviews of books that relate to Southern tourism.
For a quick link to one of Bissell’s back-to-back features, go to: http://southeasternliterarytourisminitiative.blogspot.com/2010/03/hiking-nantahala-mountain-trail.html
One feature focuses on Bissell’s debut breakout novel In The Forest of Harm and its tourism attraction of the Nantahala National Forest.
The other offers an excerpt from her fourth and most recentnovel Legacy of Masks and offers links to its beautiful small-town setting of Sylva, NC.
SELTI is also seeking a Tennessee tourism-related book to profile for its series. Follow the blog and post a comment at: http://southeasternliterarytourisminitiative.blogspot.com.
